Allendale’s Ali Wiersma top area runner in the Foot Locker regional

Allendale junior Ali Wiersma was 13th in Saturday’s Midwest Regional at Wisconsin-Parkside University with a time of 17 minutes, 56.2 seconds. Wiersma had the best finisher for the Grand Rapids area runners. Grand Rapids Christian Lauren McCarthy was 22nd (18:22.2).

Hudsonville triplets gives a new meaning to sibling rivalry

The Hudsonville girls cross country team gives a new meaning to sibling rivalry. With the Berends triplets: Alex, Janey and Abby all have qualified for th Division 1 state meet. Alex, who won invitationals at Holly and Kenowa Hills, finished second at the regional with a time of 19 minutes, 11.3 seconds. Janey was third overall, 22 seconds behind Alex, and Abby was 18th overall.

Rockford girls and Grand Haven boys win Regional crown for cross country

The Rockford girls cross country team outlasted Grand Haven on Saturday to win their ninth Division 1 regional championship in 11 years. Rockford finished with 44 points and earned three of the meet’s first five places. Traverse City Central was second (55) and Grand Haven was third (63).

Grand Haven won the boys regional title with 56 points, and Rockford earned second place. Traverse City West’s boys also qualified for the state meet by finishing third.

Kenowa Hills cross country takes home two consecutive titles

Kenowa Hills’ junior, Allison VanPatten, defended her OK Black Conference individual girls cross country title, while the Kenowa Hills boys made it two consecutive league team titles Wednesday at Gracewil Country Club. VanPatten won with a time of 19 minutes, 40 seconds and the Knights boys finished with 22 points to easily outdistance runner-up Forest Hills Central by 38 points.

North Muskegon boys cross country team wins Greater Muskegon Athletic Association title

The North Muskegon boys cross country team runners placed 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 11th on Saturday to win the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association title. Mathias Waterstradt finished first with a time of 16:57.

North Muskegon won with 37 points, followed by Whitehall (82), Muskegon (104), Orchard View (108) and Mona Shores (112).

Reeths-Puffer wins cross country meet by only one point

Reeths-Puffer won the recent cross country meet by only one point, second place went to North Muskegon. The Rockets, Olivia Howard took second overall with a time of 20:30.

Reeths-Puffer won with 58 points, followed by North Muskgon (59), Fruitport (79), Mona Shores (96) and Whitehall (130).

Forest Hills Northern wins Belding cross country Invitational

Forest Hills Northern had five runners place in the top six spots at Wednesday’s Belding Invitational. The Huskies hope to improve on their 11th-place finish at the state finals last year, and they have the talent to do so.

Calvin Christian boys win Christian School Cross Country Invite

Calvin Christian won the Christian School Invitation on Saturday at the South Christian athletic complex. Nine of Calvin’s top 10 runners are returners from a team which finished runner-up at the state Division 3 meet. Justus Pinckney won the meet with a time of 16:24.64. Calvin had four runnerfinish in the top seven at the meet.

Grand Rapids Christian boys, East Grand Rapids girls top OK White jamboree

Grand Rapids Christian boys cross country had 9 out of the top 10 runners at Wednesday’s OK White jamboree. Jacob Kuyvenhoven and Mike Vandenheuvel finished top two for the boys with times of 17 minutes, 26 seconds and 17 minutes, 43 seconds. East Grand Rapids girls had 5 out of the top 10 finishers. East Grand Rapids’ Jessie Baloga won the girls’ meet with a time of 19 minutes, 38 seconds.
