Unity Wows

Despite slick roads and steady snowfall all night, fans packed the house at Unity Christian, ready to watch the Sailors and Crusaders duke it out on the court.  The Unity Christian Crusaders put on an amazing show for the fans, completely shutting down the South Christian Sailors, easily winning by a final score of 67-46.

The Sailors had the edge early in tonight’s contest, outscoring the Crusaders 17-14 in the first quarter, but that was as good as things got for South Christian.  Unity blew the doors off in the second quarter of play, putting up a lopsided 23-6 set of action, allowing the Crusaders to take a comfortable 36-23 lead into halftime.  The hot Crusader play continued in the third quarter, as Unity extended their lead, leading 47-31 going into the fourth.  Showing tenacity and heart, South Christian put on a strong full-court press, but their efforts were not enough to close the gap, being outscored by five points in the last quarter.

Kyle Kwaske led South Christian in scoring tonight, ending the game with 11 points.  Jordan VanderWall chipped in 10 points, including two buckets from three-point range.

Unity’s Michael Wilks and Ryan Wassink each scored 17 points in the victory.  Mitch Tolman added 10 points on the night.

With the victory, the Crusaders improve their overall record to 5-3.  They will resume OK Green conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Wyoming Park.  South Christian slips to 4-4 overall.  The Sailors continue their OK Gold conference schedule when they travel to Catholic Central on Tuesday.
