Ottawa Hills pounces on Caledonia in OK Gold play.

The Bengals of Ottawa Hills are having a great start to their season after playing many non-local teams. Tuesday night it was back to normal as OK Gold play kicked off at Ottawa Hills High School. Caledonia came in at 5-1 on the season and has looked impressive as well although when all was said and done it was Ottawa Hills taking a 51-36 victory and starting off league play in style. The Bengal Defense was fierce all night long and made things extremely tough for the Fighting Scots.

Shakur Sanders blew this game wide open in the 4th quarter with key drives to the hoop resulting from a broken down Caledonia transition Defense. A flurry of 4th quarter threes by the Scots gave a hint of a run but the Bengals held solid and protected their home floor.

Quick Hitters

Caledonia

  • Stephen Spencer had his hands full most of the night trying to create offense in the midst of the Bengal D. The senior guard did all he could to keep his squad around in this one but his shots didn’t fall at the end and OH locked down his teammates.
  • This team is going to be very competetive in the Gold this year and will need a split with the Bengals later in the year to improve their chances. The Scots are big and have great guard play that allows them to knock down jumpers when they are shut out inside.

Ottawa Hills

  • The Bengals are a very deep and play tremendous team defense. Their speed and length allows them to pressure other teams and quickly recover from any mistakes they may make. Coach Van Mayfield has prepared this team for success with a tough schedule and that should have this team ready for a long league haul.
  • Shakur Sanders leads this team and did so tonight with 19 points but there are other names to keep an eye on with the Bengals. Madison Taylor had 16 and 3 threes on the night while Daryl White, Tevin Williams and Antoine Wilson also had very good games.
