The game was another great game of two separate halves. The first half had big plays for both sides that created points and the second half featured the defenses for both schools and punts. Grand Rapids Christian scored a late fourth quarter touchdown to go up by two scores, 34 to 20 after leading 27 to 20 at half. Check out Lou Murray’s Slide-show for more from this game!
Idle thoughts and comments:
- GRC kicking game will be far superior to most teams, especially on kick offs, putting the ball into the end zone without the aid of much wind.
- FHC’s offensive line play was impressive.
- GRC’s receivers were often well beyond the FHC defensive backs or alone. Dropped passes and overthrown passes minimized this.
- GRC’s quarterback, Alex Van De Vusse had a shoulder injury mid way through the forth quarter and did not return. His replacement, Travis Kraai, ran the ball more, but Christian may have also been trying to eat up some clock.
- The officials, after punts midway through the 3rd and 4th quarters called officials time outs for water. They probably needed some too! With the heat it was a great call.
- FHC’s running back / safety Jamal Kanu seemed to get stronger as the game progressed. He broke tackles and gained considerable second effort yardage.

FHC Anthony Saladino pressures GRC QB Alex Van De Vusse into a poor pass that was intercepted and lead to a FHC TD.
