We have a new number one team in our weekly rankings of the top ten teams in West Michigan. Rockford has fallen out and we have a few surprise teams breaking through. We encourage the fans of WMA to tune into ESPN 96.1 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays as we will have a nice spot in the 6 o’clock hour to keep you the fans updated on all that is West Michigan High School Sports.

1.) Wayland

The streak rolls on; Wayland escaped with a 62-60 win over Forest Hills Eastern in overtime and now look ahead to Plainwell on Tuesday.

2.) Grand Rapids Christian

Freshman Drake Harris is proving to be the real deal and this team is showing their talents. Forest Hills Northern is next.

3.) Grand Rapids Union

We watched Union dismantle Forest Hills Central and Red Hawks are going to be very tough to beat all year long.

4.) West Michigan Christian

With two convincing wins over Fruitport and Hudsonville Freedom Christian The Warriors continue to roll. They are off until January 7th.

5.) East Kentwood

The Falcons scored two big conference wins this week over Grand Haven and Muskegon. The trio of Micah Gates, Fred Brown and Jeremiah Williams have East Kentwood atop a very tough OK Red.

6.) Muskegon Heights

A 66-53 win over Traverse City West has Heights building momentum as they have Reeths-Puffer and Muskegon on the 28th and 29th respectively.

7.) Muskegon

After dropping a game against East Kentwood the Big Reds dropped the impressive Panthers of West Ottawa 60-45, using a 20-9 3rd quarter to spark that victory.

8.) Grand Rapids Catholic Central

Connor Hogan is leading the Cougars to a great early season after taking down Middleville Thornapple Kellogg in overtime. A date with Wayland on January 7th will be a nice matchup for fans.

9. South Christian

The Sailors took down Ottawa Hills 61-55 and are now off until the 4th.

10.) West Ottawa

The Panthers like East Kentwood have been impressive early on and although they dropped their game at Muskegon they deserve to be on this list.

Honorable Mentions (in no order)

Rockford

At 2-3 the Rams have been disappointing to say the least. Kalamazoo Central took Rockford down Friday 73-58 and Majerle and crew will look to right the ship as the season grows.

Comstock Park

Tyler Mason is leading this team on their early season undefeated run.

Ludington

After and opening night loss to Mason County Central, the Orioles have won three in a row including a 58-55 win over Spring Lake on Friday night.

Grand Haven

Grand Haven keeps rolling along at the top of the OK Red. They hung with East Kentwood losing 44-41 and now look ahead to Spring Lake.

We hope to see you out at a game and will keep you posted on where we will be. Don’t forget that we will update you every Monday on the new WMA rankings. Again feel free to discuss below!
