His initials might be B.B., but Ben Bregg is like a bullet from a .50 cal. He hits hard, and he goes far. Bregg lowered his shoulders for a trio of scores in Hopkin’s 28-14 win over Allendale.
“Linemen play was great,” said Bregg. “Offensively and defensively. Overall, as a team it was good.”
Bregg got the Vikings on the board in their first possession on a five-yard carry. The power-T worked to perfection in the first quarter as the Vikings ran for 93 yards on 10 carries. He’d finish with 21 carries for 197 yards and three scores.

Things weren’t working so perfectly for the visiting Allendale Falcons. Maybe the Falcons warmed up to Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet. In the first half alone, the Falcons fumbled five times in their high-risk, high-reward option offense. Luckily they recovered three of ‘em and headed into halftime trailing 14-0 after another score by Bregg.
Hopkin’s quarterback and kick returner Mitch Pavlak put his team in position for a quick score to start the second half with a 43-yard return, but penalties took the wind out of the Viking’s sails. They were forced to attempt to punt on 4th and 27. A bad snap on the punt attempt put Allendale deep into Hopkin’s territory. Three plays later, Allendale’s always elusive quarterback Trevor Schultz scooted in for a 23-yard score. He finished the game with 21 carries for 124 yards.
Schultz kept the Falcon’s comeback hopes alive, but turnovers kept popping up. Literally. On a crucial 4th and one, Hopkin’s Brett Boerman shot like a missile and popped the ball right into the hands of Ethan Green.
A touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter put Allendale within a score. But Bregg wasn’t done, and responded with a 31-yard score.
“It’s just a great accomplishment that we can get the conference championship… and finishing out the season with a win over our biggest rivals.”
The win gave Hopkin’s the OK Silver championship and ended the season for rival Allendale.
