Unless you’re Tim Duncan, basketball players generally don’t attempt bank shots. While the Bank Hoops summer basketball camp appears to suggest otherwise (which would lead to a severe loss in street cred), the word in this case is actually referring to the bank of talented players who have migrated through the camp. It’s been the stomping grounds of college-bound and college-interested players for years.
On day one of this year’s spring minicamp, Bank Hoops’ very own Steve Bell added a dozen names to the bank — impact players with a legitimate shot at collegiate PT. Two West Michiganders stood out among this list. One is a name you’ve heard before, and one is a name you will be hearing more often.
Paul Lombard | 6-9 | Jr | Montague
There’s always a chance for a big kid who has hands and footwork. Good back-to-basket game with a drop-step, up-and-under and jump-hook. Needs to get meaner, tougher and quicker on defense. “He has nice looking rotation on his shot,” one coach said. “If he can get in better shape and improve on his aggressiveness, he could help someone at the next level.”
Jorddan Myrick | 5-10 | Jr | West Ottawa
Myrick has been going to both the spring and fall camps since middle school, and set the all-time attendance record with this session. He was also the only committed Division I player here, to Central Michigan. “He was the quickest and best ball-handler at the camp,” a coach said. “Improved shot was nice to see.”
